Bike insurance

To err is human! We all lose things, misplace belongings and forget where documents are kept. Unfortunately, unlike a misplaced pair of socks, earphones and such other household items, a lost policy document can lead to several issues and even fines. Keeping this in mind, the following article will go over the easy steps you need to take to get a duplicate copy of your bike insurance policy and get back on the road with complete peace of mind!

1. Inform your insurance provider.

The very first thing you need to do in case you lose your policy documents is inform your insurance provider. You can do this by calling them up, or visiting their branch. For written proof, you can send an email to complement your verbal intimation. You must inform your insurance provider about the loss of your bike insurance policy, only then will they begin the process to provide you with a duplicate copy.

2. File a First Information Report (FIR).

Next up, you need to file a FIR with your nearest police station stating that your bike insurance policy documents were lost or stolen. You cannot apply for duplicate policy without the copy of the FIR.

3. Place an advertisement in the newspaper.

The third step to get a duplicate copy of your bike insurance policy would be to place an ad in the newspaper. The ad needs to be in an English daily that is circulated in the state where the policy was lost. The ad must contain all relevant details about your policy including information such as your name, policy number and policy type. The cost of this ad will have to be borne by you.

4. Indemnity bond.

Once you place an ad in the newspaper, the next step would be to sign an indemnity bond. This needs to be drawn-up on non-judicial stamp paper and should state the policy number and the details of the policyholder. Besides your initials, you will also require the signatures of two witnesses to verify the bond.

5. Submit the application.

The next step would be to submit an application for a duplicate policy document with your insurance provider. You need to submit the FIR, a cut out of your newspaper ad and a copy of your indemnity bond along with this application. After this, your insurance provider should furnish you with a duplicate copy of your policy document.

If you wish to avoid all these formalities, we suggest buying/renewing bike insurance online. Not only is the process is much easier, but you can also have the policy document will be emailed to you. This way you always have a softcopy in your mail box and you can forget about misplacing the physical copies! We hope you never find yourself in a situation where you need to use this information, but if you do, we hope this article will help you out.

Good luck and ride safe!
